When I applied to the Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy program, I was searching for an avenue to work towards becoming a yoga therapist at a pace that would not only align with my life circumstances at that time, but in the long term as well. The decision to pursue my studies with Breathing Deeply over other Yoga Therapy Programs was directly related to Brandt. I was struck by his presence during an initial conversation. He is ever mindful of the long-term considerations of his students. He is not one to simply go through the motions when he teaches, his integrity in the learning experience is clear. I was also glad I had the option to attend retreats remotely. At one retreat, I was for a time after Brandt’s guidance on pranayama where I had a broken arm. I am so grateful to feel part of a community from afar. I have been able to integrate key things from the retreats that have impacted my life in a profound way. As a licensed clinical professional counselor I have helped hundreds of people understand themselves better, develop healthy coping skills and make positive life changes. Yet too often 'talk therapy' by itself is not enough. For people living with anxiety and the effects of trauma, talking is just the tip of the iceberg. For true balance to be restored, their somatic symptoms must be addressed. The Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy teacher training has helped me as a mental health professional to take a broader look at my work with clients. It has given me fresh eyes, no longer only looking through the mental health lens I was originally trained with. I now also incorporate the lens of yoga in the work I do with clients. This gives me a deeper understanding of what clients are going through. And the movement they might need to advance towards more healthy, balanced lives. Breathing Deeply's Yoga Therapist training has been a catalyst for me to intensely re-evaluate and reconstruct both my practice and the work I do with my group and private yoga clients.

If you are an aspiring yoga therapist that is apprehensive about making the leap because of a hole in your learning around anatomy, this is the retreat for you. This week gave me so much confidence about how to read bodies and a much better understanding of anatomy and it was done in a way that fit my learning style. I’ve been working with a client for three weeks with a yoga therapy sequence to help with his knock knees and bulging disc at L5.  It is very similar to the sequence that I’ve turned in for the lesson 16 assignment. This client has been very dedicated, working the sequence 4 to 5 times a week. Today when we met, he was so happy!  His knees are starting to shift, his hips are opening and his sleep and mood have greatly improved.  He is so thankful for my yoga therapy training. I highly recommend the Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy Foundations Course for two reasons. One, it gives you a realistic and applicable skill set when working privately with clients, and two, it’s a comprehensive training that gives you personal facility with all aspects of yoga. You’ll be able to help balance your clients, as well as yourself. Brandt’s approachable personality and deep knowledge of yoga are refreshing and the online curriculum and retreat learning gives you flexibility in completing the course. A yoga teacher friend who was taking this yoga therapy training recommended the Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy program to me. Because of my busy and irregular schedule I liked the independent study, online format. The online lectures are great, and you can go back as many times as you need. The on-line practices in meditation, pranayama, and chanting have really helped me deepen my practice. The Garrison Institute retreats are a joy with great camaraderie (and delicious food). I participate weekly in the calls with Brandt. He is so helpful with any questions – big or small – about clients, my own practice, philosophy or homework. The calls and the retreats have helped me be a part of a larger community of interesting and engaged peers. Most important, Brandt is a supportive and smart mentor of great integrity guiding us on the journey to serve as a Yoga Therapist.

The thing that appealed to me right away about Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy was, well, two things. The first was the online component. It’s super convenient to be able to do the teachings online. At a time that was convenient for me. At the time, I was working full-time and so that was a really appealing part of that program. And then, watching the videos of Brandt. I got a sense of who he is as a teacher. He is sattvic, so super balanced. He practices and you can tell that he does his work. But he’s also able to condense really complicated, ancient teachings into a very accessible way for everybody. As the teachings and as the months and as the retreats progressed I got to see that he was able to bring together people of all ages, of all walks of life, to do this teaching and it’s become a beautiful sangha. I encourage you to look into this program. You know, I‘m a Nurse Practitioner by background and I can see myself using this work with people of any condition and I just look forward to continuing on with the program.

I had been teaching yoga for over ten years and had been looking at yoga therapy programs for about four years when I found the Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy program. What initially drew me to this particular program was primarily logistics: the ability to do the entire foundations program from my home if I chose.
