Yoga Therapy's Unique Approach
Yoga therapy is unlike other forms of healthcare. It beautifully blends ancient yoga traditions and Ayurveda with modern medical knowledge to create a singular wellness solution. What’s more, clients are invited to take on a direct and engaged role in their healing journey.
Thanks to its unique approach, yoga therapy is more holistic in the way it responds to clients than more traditional healthcare modalities. It also goes beyond what students can learn from a yoga instructor in a group class. Yoga therapy is uniquely positioned to aid in physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
Yoga therapy starts with finding a qualified yoga therapist to lead the way. It isn’t something that clients can teach themselves. Yoga therapists are responsible for meeting with clients one-on-one and guiding them through treatment that is tailored to their specific needs and goals.
You may improve a client’s health through a combination of asanas (yoga poses), pranayama (breathing exercises), chanting, philosophy, and meditation. A yoga therapist determines which techniques they should use, applies them therapeutically, and teaches the client how to eventually carry on these practices on their own.
What Are the Benefits of Getting Colorado Yoga Therapy Training?
In order to become a yoga therapist, it’s first necessary to complete a training course. If you choose to complete your yoga therapy training in Colorado online with Breathing Deeply, you can anticipate these benefits:
- Flexible Career Options: Becoming a certified yoga therapist opens up a whole host of new ways to work within the health and wellness field. Incorporate yoga therapy techniques into an existing healthcare job, start a private yoga therapy practice, or work as a yoga therapist at a hospital, mental health department, chiropractor’s office, addiction center, and more. You can also choose to specialize in treating specific conditions or populations or you can serve broad audiences as a general practitioner.
- Clientele Growth and Financial Growth: Your qualifications as a yoga therapist allow you to help clients in ways yoga instructors can’t. You are also equipped to address health holistically in ways that traditional Western perspectives often miss. This can increase your client base, in turn allowing you to earn greater profits.
- Collaborative Approach: Since yoga therapy draws from a wide berth of knowledge—from ancient and modern practices to Eastern and Western philosophy—it is a natural gateway to forging new connections in the wellness community. Work closely with other healthcare practitioners to fill the gaps in clients’ care.
- Comprehensive Wellness: When you take on a role as a yoga therapist, you will have the chance to explore many different facets of wellness, offering clients a holistic approach to their health. Many of our students also find that their training empowers them to improve their own health, wellness, and personal yoga practice.
- Physical Health Support: Your training will prepare you to address a multitude of physical health conditions, including but not limited to:
- Mental Health Support: Your healthcare support goes beyond physical ailments. You can also expect to address these conditions and more:

As a trauma-informed yoga teacher at a residential addiction recovery program for women, I was constantly bumping up on my own limitations in addressing clients’ physical pain and concerns. Yoga Therapy and training with Breathing Deeply seemed like the correct avenue to deepen my knowledge about safety in poses, pain relief, and recovery from long-standing health issues.
This program and school has completely exceeded my expectations! I was worried about jumping into a new “form” of yoga and having to integrate new knowledge with previous knowledge… But this happened seamlessly as the BDYT program is built upon real foundations of yoga, and not on any “special” perspective that is separate from other yoga.

Our Advanced Yoga Therapy Training and Certification
For deeper education regarding yoga therapy, train with Breathing Deeply through our Advanced Yoga Therapy Program. It can be completed over the course of two years total: one year for the Foundations Program and one for the Advanced modules and practicum. Of course, if you need more time, you are welcome to progress at a rate that works best for you. Those who successfully complete this training are eligible to receive the C-IAYT, the highest yoga therapy certification.
The Advanced Program is made up of three parts:
- The Foundations of Yoga Therapy Program
- 8 week-long live virtual learning modules
- Mentored practicum in the community
The most valuable part of the program for me was that I was able to interact with Brandt, Joe (my TA), and the rest of the wonderful Breathing Deeply staff who were consistently there to answer any questions or concerns and always made me feel comfortable. Having completed the Foundations course, I am feeling so much more motivated, organized, disciplined, confident and excited to carry on. I benefited so much from the great discussions, Q&A forums, assignments, and online retreats.
