Yoga Therapy's Unique Approach
Yoga therapy combines traditional yoga practice with modern knowledge, featuring movement (asana), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation, chanting, and other techniques. These practices are applied therapeutically to improve physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
A yoga therapist works holistically to heal the body, mind, and spirit of each client. Their unique needs, circumstances, and goals are taken into account so a yoga practice can be personalized for them.
Yoga therapy is unique for several reasons:
- Holistic Approach: Yoga therapy deals with the person as a whole—body, mind, and spirit.
- Personalization: A yoga therapist considers each client’s health conditions, limitations, and goals in order to personalize practices for their needs.
- Complementary and Integrative: Yoga therapy can supplement conventional medical treatment and other forms of therapy, often finding a place as part of an integrated treatment plan.
- Prevention and Maintenance: Not only does yoga therapy address current health problems, but also it lays the foundation for ongoing good health and prevention of further issues.
- Mind-Body Connection: Yoga therapy strengthens the mind-body connection and promotes better self-awareness, which can help to regulate nervous system responses, stress, and difficult emotions.
- Adaptability: Yoga therapy is amenable to a wide range of ages, abilities, and conditions, with the capacity to easily provide modifications and variations to techniques that makes it safe and effective for the person at hand.

Our Foundations of Yoga Therapy Training
Our Foundations of Yoga Therapy Program will teach you the basics of yoga therapy. The program can be completed in just one year!
The Foundations Program consists of:
- 50 pre-recorded lectures
- Coursework
- Assignments and online social network
- Live Q&As with head teacher and Breathing Deeply creator, Brandt Passalacqua
- 3 virtual/online learning retreat modules
- Hands-on experience with other students
Among the many teachings and philosophies this program offers, for me, gaining a deeper understanding of the philosophy behind the Doshas and Kosha was the most impactful. This clarity has helped me better understand people in general, myself included. As a result, I feel I am a better teacher, partner, parent, and yoga therapist. I look at things with a broader perspective now…”we can accept pain, but we don’t have to accept suffering.” I am truly grateful for the time and effort put into developing this phenomenal program!

Our Advanced Yoga Therapy Training and Certification
For those wanting to deepen their knowledge, our Advanced Yoga Therapy Program prepares you for the highest level of yoga therapy certification. Students can earn their C-IAYT certification upon completion of this training.
The Advanced Program is made up of three parts:
- The Foundations of Yoga Therapy Program
- 8 week-long live virtual learning modules
- Mentored practicum in the community
My teaching has changed completely since starting the program. I was always very much into matching breath to movement, but now I’d say I follow the Breathing Deeply yoga therapy model of breath to movement, strengthening, and then stretching – a process I found had been lacking in other practices.
